RIZZA
“Fóton”, 2022 - 2024
An intersection of light, form, and movement. Gold-colored aluminum links. Variable dimensions.
Photons are the particles that make up light. It is in this context of investigation of optical phenomena that the installation was conceived. These particles are fundamental to understanding the nature of light and its behavior, both in classical physics and quantum physics.
The choice of gold for this work is not arbitrary. In his research on the relationship between space, time, and light during the Middle Ages, Rizza observed that artists frequently used this color to represent the divine and the incomprehensible. Next comes the creation of form, and it was in this work that he began using the curve as a compositional element. Between denser and emptier spaces, overlapping beams, and steeper angles, he gradually constructed an image that I was able to refine. Thus, he imagined three arched metal rings, each with a distinct radius, intertwining in a spiraling motion. The choice of aluminum, an extremely lightweight material, gave the installation a significant softness. It moves subtly, interacting not only visually with the space, but also physically.

A self-taught artist, Rizza presents her work as an artistic practice that revolves around the manipulation of optical phenomena capable of creating visual and spatial interactions. Exploring various technological resources that allow for the modification of matter, from algorithmic programming parameters that determine the form of the works to cutting and casting techniques, the artist believes that the pieces behave as an open system, in which matter, number, and phenomenon intertwine. The sculpture ceases to be a static object and becomes a field of forces—physical, optical, and mathematical.
