PAULO MEIRA
“Radio Catimbó” 2016-2018
Rádio Catimbó is not only a means of communication, but the work is also a sculpture and, at the same time, a community radio. In addition to broadcasting programs produced by the community of Santa Terezinha, the work aims to explore the universe of radio within the visual arts framework.

He currently lives and works in Belém, Pará, Brazil
Paulo Meira has a degree in industrial design and visual programming from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). In his installations he brings together objects that would normally not coexist, changes their dimensions, and gives them new senses and meanings.
According to Paulo Meira “Exploring the universe of radio within the visual arts has been, in the last three years, one of the main agents of my artistic action. The search for an aesthetic experience that activates an expanded perception, not centered on the visual reception of the work, but also amplified by the awakening of other senses. I have been engaging with the ideas of researchers who outline a post-media aesthetic heralding a new era of listening, as well as a ‘listening culture’, different from ‘visual culture’ with its naturally shorter and much faster time than the auditory flow time.”
