ART FESTIVAL IN THE USINA

Held since 2015, the festival works as a catalyst for the visual arts, music, film, theater, and literature projects developed by the Usina de Arte throughout the year, Grinding Art (Moendo Arte).

The Art Festival in the Usina was founded in November 2015, before the project Usina de Arte even took shape, the result of a partnership with the Festival Arte Serrinha from Bragança Paulista-São Paulo, Brazil.

The event is a window through which we show to the world the conversion that we are proposing to the workers’ village of the old Usina Santa Terezinha, already deactivated at the time for more than 15 years. It is the culmination of the project’s activities throughout the year.

During the festival, workshops, courses, lectures, film screenings, theatrical performances, concerts, in short, several artistic and cultural activities are offered to the community with a focus on the school population, but not limited to.

The event has a partnership with SEBRAE and seeks to qualify and encourage entrepreneurship in the community, which through the more than 20 establishments that have already emerged from the project, serve the public attending the event, which in its eighth edition held in November 2022 reached a record number of more than 25,000 people, boosting tourism in the region.

Held annually, the festival promotes an immersion in the reflections and perspectives designed by the Usina de Arte, provoking disruptions in the way we both think and act that reverberates throughout the entire year. Mobilized and trained to receive visitors, part of the residents of Santa Terezinha start to explore their entrepreneurial potential, while others discover, in art, a vocation and a profession. SAFRA 2020 On account of the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 edition of the festival was different and valued local artists and production. Everyone wore masks and kept their distance. SAFRA 2019 The 2019 edition of the Art Festival in the Usina was prepared with great care, always in search of valuing our culture. It was filled with shows, workshops, and exhibitions for everyone to breathe art and sustainability during an entire week.

The concerts program included names like Alceu Valença, Arnaldo Antunes, and other musical attractions that were soothing to our ears. There were also workshops given by fashion designer Ronaldo Fraga and the Pernambuco native Ton Fill, who taught drawing techniques in a light and fun way. SAFRA 2018 The 2018 edition of the Art Festival in the Usina took place from November 9 to 17, and featured a diverse cultural program, bringing together renowned artists from Pernambuco and other parts of the country. The attractions contemplated the arts in their various and hybrid languages.

Guided visits were also made by art educators through the cultural circuit of the Artistic-Botanical Park, encouraging interaction with nature and reflection on other possibilities of occupying the space.

In tune with the other projects of the Usina de Arte, the goal was to broaden the cultural and economic horizons of Vila Santa Terezinha and its surroundings, relying on art as an instrument of social transformation.

The shows, exhibitions, co-creation experiences, workshops, and visits to the cultural circuit, as in all the editions, were free of charge.
